Are we ever really happy with the weather in England?? As I was on route to a client today I was listening to the radio where they were discussing this exact topic. What temperature keeps us all happy?? Anything below 19 degrees results in us all reaching for that extra layer and anything over 23 degrees leaves us turning in to couch potatoes, unable to move because we are just too hot!!
When the sun does come out we all know we should be reaching for the SPF to ensure our skin is protected from the UVA and UVB rays, but do we all really understand how the products work and what we should be taking note of?? If not, carry on reading and hopefully you will find the below useful!
Makeup with SPF – “I use SPF everyday as it is in my foundation” A lot of foundations now include SPF, however they do not provide UVA protection. Not only that, don’t be tricked into thinking that your foundation is going to provide you the necessary protection from the sun. You’d need at least 8 times the amount of foundation normally used daily to get the sun protection factor specified on the bottle. – quoted by cosmetic Doctor, Jonquille Chantrey.
So make sure in your daily routine your applying a sun cream too!!
SPF – 4, 8 10, 20, 25 50… “I’ll use factor 10, then I will get brown quicker” What does the factor on the bottle actually mean, do we know?? The SPF factor on the bottle indicates how many minutes ‘safe’ you would have in the sun. For example, if you’d normally burn in 10 minutes you would theoretically get 300 ‘safe’ minutes from applying SPF 30.n Make sure the suncream you are purchasing also includes UVA and UVB protection!
Shade Worshipers – “I haven’t got suncream on but il stay in the shade” Yes, you can still get burnt in the shade. A fact that no one likes to believe when I say, however regardless of whether you are sat in the shade you still should be wearing the correct SPF. This is because of UV Radiation which is bouncing off reflections and surfaces.
Lets enjoy the summer whilst its hear everyone, it is less than 6 months until Christmas. (Sorry, I went there.)
